Misleading Mortgage Notices in your Mailbox
Published: September 11, 2019
Around the country, mailboxes are being hit with pink or yellow post cards that establishes a sense of urgency for the recipient. These post cards may include the name of your financial institution (United States Senate Federal Credit Union), a phone number to call along with a seemingly valid Mortgage ID number. All things members may register as legitimate. However, these post cards are not products of USSFCU and the numbers listed will put you through to outside organizations attempting to gain your business. Research shows that there are a few different numbers associated with these post cards that are linked to businesses such as loandepot.com, Heritage Warranty Company and Mortgage Protection Services, none of which are associated with USSFCU in any way. It is important to note that these organizations may have obtained contact information in various ways that involves taking information from public listings or purchasing contact information from a third party that is in no way associated with USSFCU. USSFCU does not and will not sell your information to any third parties!
Still unsure if this post card is a valid USSFCU notice? Check the bottom right corner where the disclosure states, “Not affiliated with, sponsored by and loan information not provided by United States Senate Federal Credit Union (or the name of the institution you financed your Mortgage through)”. If you happen or have happened to call, any of the numbers listed on the post card and the person or automated system on the other end ask you for any personal information or to pay any fees for services to reduce or stop your mortgage payments, please note these as red flags!
If you are unsure what to do about this notice, please contact USSFCU or your primary financial institution directly. Do not contact the number listed on the post card and properly dispose of the notice. If you are ever unsure of a piece of mail or email received or phone call made, call USSFCU directly at 800.374.2758 or email [email protected].
