Celebrating World Radio Day
Published: February 8, 2019
February 13 is a date proclaimed by the United Nations to celebrate radio broadcast, improve international cooperation among radio broadcasters and encourage decision-makers to create and provide access to information through radio, including community radios.
Radio is the mass media reaching the widest audience in the world. It is also recognized as a powerful communication tool and a low cost medium. This day marks a time where people around the world celebrate radio and how it shapes our lives. Radio informs, transforms and unites us. It brings together people and communities from all backgrounds to foster positive dialogue for change. Furthermore, radio has a strong and specific role in emergency communication and disaster relief.
World Radio Day is of special significance to USSFCU—we service 2 organizations in the field of broadcasting, the Radio and Television Correspondents' Association (RTCA) and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). Both NAB and RTCA members and employees are eligible for USSFCU membership. We are proud to service the employees and their families of these two esteemed organizations.
